Blackbarn Flower Company provides sustainably grown flowers and arrangements to local vendors, designers and subscription members.

We strive to find a the uncommon varieties and colors you may not see at the grocery store or florist shop and we love to seek out the rare and unusual to mix in with our favorite garden workhorses. Our arrangements are a field picked, loose and natural style and reflect the mood of whatever is growing on the farm that day.

the way we do it

We enrich our soil as we farm. Organic and sustainable practices promote biodiversity which supports a wide variety of insect and microbial life. Diversity keeps diseases and pests in balance resulting in healthy plants. Because of this our flowers sparkle with vitality, boasting fuller fragrance and greater vase longevity compared to imported cut flowers.

How we got started

Five acres and a hobby turned into something a little bit bigger.

Our enthusiasm for construction, design, gardening, and landscaping means we’ve left none of the five houses we’ve lived in untouched.   There’s a wake of major remodel projects and significant gardens behind us.   The current 5 acre farm property was purchased as our long term docking station while three young kids finished school.   No more moving around was the intent - we’ve succeeded in that.  Your welcome, children!

However, not tackling the next house as we used to just meant that every corner of this property is the next potential remodel, new construction or gardening project.
This land development project eventually scaled into the current operation of growing cut flowers in bulk.     Because of course it would.

Over five years a lovely little farm (it still feels odd calling it a farm) has evolved from what was a plain ranch rambler on a neglected and overgrown 5 acre site.   It’s stunning how much can be grown on a small amount of land.   Practicing succession and high density planting methods, we can grow A LOT.

We are those neighbors who grow too much squash and won’t stop bringing it over... except we do that with flowers. We have observed that the reaction to receiving beautiful flowers is much more appreciative than when receiving squash. So we made a decent choice of crops.

BlackBarn was started by Celeste and Charlie - a working couple with a passion for big projects,  cultivating land,  and being good stewards of it all.
